Major Assignment 2 (Interview)

I interviewed 3 people who have either sold or consumed Herbalife:

Distributor of Herbalife:

  1. How did you hear about Herbalife?
    1. Though a friend.
  2. Why do you like it?
    1. I love Herbalife because the shakes taste amazing, they make eating healthier easy! Herbalife is a FULL nutrition company and has something for everyone! Plus, the community that comes along with it is super supportive!
  1. What would you say to someone who doesn’t believe in it?
    1. I wouldn’t say it’s something to believe in. It’s a nutrition company. Just like eating fruits and vegetables it gives you healthy options to replace meals get energy or whatever it is your looking for to be healthy!
  1. do you cut out a lot of meals and replace them or how does it work?
    1. Depends on what your goals are . If it’s to loose weight you would replace 1-2 meals a day! If it’s to gain weight you would drink a shake with each healthy meal! You still eat food . Just like any healthy lifestyle you eat snacks between and a healthy meal or 2!
  1. did you look into other things besides Herbalife? If yes, what were they and did they help a all?
    1. Yes . I tried it works , ADVOCARE , and shakeology! I didn’t care for the the taste of shakes and there wasn’t much support. With Herbalife i seen all the support, love and the community that was given! Along with all the other products they had. Also ADVOCARE was a TON of pills that i wasn’t told what any of them were . Just told to take them. And other “diets” are hard because i am a very picky eater so keto , and all that wasn’t for me .
  1. could you walk me through the steps of joining? like say I wanted to do it
    1. As a client it’s just the matter of ordering the products you need like going to a grocery store but online! Again everyone’s goal is different so products would be catered to each person! As a distributor it’s $100 you invest to start selling and this includes 3 – 3day trial packs you can sell to clients (get some of your money back) you also get your website along with catalogs and some quick start guides! You would have to a take a distributor training before you can start selling! Then once you pass you immediately start making 25% on all orders & get 25% off on products for yourself !
  2. any final thoughts on it or something I should include?
    1. Herbalife has been around for 40 years and every year their client base has grown! They also have 7 ways to make money as a distributor! It’s more than just a MLM it’s a huge opportunity for everyone!

First consumer:

  1. Who introduced you to Herbalife? Was there a selling point when they offered it to you?
    1. Husband’sparents. Yes, we ended up making an account to buy and sell our own products if we wanted.
  2. Did they promise you anything?
    1. I wouldn’t be able to say yes or no, because they would talk mostly to Jose (husband). Main thing I was told directly was that it was “good for you”
  3. Did they offer any facts about how it was good for you? Or did you not ask?
    1. I was never presented facts about it being good for me. And I didn’t really ask due to the language barrier. I did happen to go in to a small shop that sold Herbalife shakes, and they were allowing people to drink aloe before there shake. I asked about that because I heard that drinking aloe while pregnant isn’t good, but the lady was very vague in her answer by just saying “it’s helps your digestion” but never went any further than that. She did mention several times about selling my own Herbalife. Also, still no facts were presented when I went into the shop.
  4. Does this shop sell Herbalife products? Does it have any marketing?
    1. The shop doesn’t sell the products directly in the store, but the owner let me know that she is a distributor of the products. All lot of their marketing for their products is on social media (Instagram and Facebook mainly) they have the 3 day trial in the store focusing on weight loss.
  5. When you ask a question about nutritional value, how do they usually answer?
    1. Usually when asked about the nutritional value they talk a lot about the protein in it and how many calories, but I’ve never been told the actually ingredients in the formula powder or in the shake itself. For the teas they focus on the main ingredient like energy or hair skin and nails etc.. but again never the specific details of the ingredients in the products or how much of one thing you’re getting. They don’t mention their company too much while in the actual shop however they do have different things like cups with their logo on it.
  6. Have you ever googled it?
    1. Yes, a few times
  7. What kind of verbiage did they use when trying to sell it?
    1. Saying stuff like how you can make money off of it doing it from your home stuff like that. How it makes you lose weight really quickly. Stating already normal facts, but not really telling me what is in the products.
  8. Would you recommend it to people? Why or Why not?
    1. After doing a lot of research I found that Herbalife has a lot of sugar added in, with other specific ingredients for fillers and shelflife that has caused liver damage and heart damage. Herbalife Doesn’t have any kind of a nutritional guide that can help you figure out the exact nutritional value for you Specifically so you don’t overtake in proteins, fats, carbs, or any type of processed or refined sugar. It’s all a blanket of products that are marketed towards anyone and everyone, however, everybody is so different that it would be impossible to make one shake for everybody to take as a nutritional supplements, and also it doesn’t have any nutritional value so I would not recommend it to anyone.
  9. Anything else you would like to add?
    1. Last thing One of the articles I read a lady went into the doctor for lack of vision dizziness and other things. Her doctor did tests and came to the conclusion she was lacking vitamin B1 which caused all of her symptoms she told her doctor she was taking Herbalife religiously so she stopped taking Herbalife after recommendations from her doctor. She started taking vitamins got a vitamin B shot and was reported to be back to normal with no symptoms after that.

Second Consumer:

  1. How did you hear about Herbalife?
    1. My parents told me about it.
  2. What did they tell you about it?
    1. That it was for weight loss and that it was a nutritious meal
  3. Did you ask about any facts behind it? Or ask any question of like how does it work?
    1. Didn’t ask about facts but did ask how it works and how to use it. I believed them I guess because it came from my parents opinion.
  4. Did you find anything different than what your parents told you?
    1. Not really. I like the products and I think they’re good for me and my health which is really what I was told
  5. Have they every tried telling you to sell your own products?
    1. Yes.
  6. Did you find anything different than what your parents told you?
    1. Not really. I like the products and I think they’re good for me and my health which is really what I was told
  7. Did you try selling the products?
    1. Yes.
  8. How did that go?
    1. Not too good because a lot of people don’t believe what you tell them because I’m not a doctor or because they don’t trust people who are selling these types of products. The people that believed were mainly people that know me or that saw my weight loss. I was given a lot of information on how to sell. They told me to use personal examples because then I could really have people relate to me so then they were more likely to buy or consume product.
  9. Are you still selling?
    1. No.
  10. Is there anything you would change about Herbalife?
    1. Hmmm maybe. Because I don’t think it’s a perfect company but I don’t know what. Maybe make an easier marketing plan. I guess it just depends who is right for the company.
