Major Assignment 1 (Reflection)

My theory of writing coming into this course was to write a paper about the topic at hand, but only generate it towards my professors. I was not writing for an audience, nor was I writing so anybody could read my papers. I also had no idea what a rhetorical situation was before this class. Now that I have learned what a rhetorical situation is, I understand that my solution or call to action needs to fit within the genre I am writing in and the audience I am writing to.

With this new theory in mind, my papers seem to come across more naturally, as every aspect of the paper fits together.  They also flow better, in a way of understanding what I am talking about.  Not only do I make the reader connect to my papers, I also make them understand the new knowledge they are receiving.  My solutions within the papers are also within the means of what is being talked about.  Before, I would struggle with finding a solution or thesis that aligned with the paper, and would resort to making something up that vaguely matched back to the topic at hand.  Now, I am more confident in my call to action as I wrote it after thoroughly understanding the topics I was discussing and the articles I was including in this paper.

I also learned a paper is more than just a class discussion.  In order for a paper to come out more naturally, I needed to do research and understand the topics at hand.  A paper should not be written for a letter grade, rather than to apply and showcase the knowledge that I have received through this class.  In turn, I can give this knowledge to the audience to establish a better connection.
